How to make a chocolate hamper or a sweet hamper
Hampers make ideal gifts for someone special. Whether you’re celebrating a birthday or anniversary, marking the arrival of a new member of the family, or even wishing someone better, a hamper full of goodies and treats can bring a smile to anyone’s face… especially if they’re personalised to the individual and contain some of their favourite chocolates or sweets. At the Sweet Hamper Company, we do what we say on the tin. Our website offers an array of incredible hampers for all occasions, available in stylish wicker hampers which can be used again and again.
However, if you fancy getting crafty, in this blog post we’re sharing our top tips on how you can create something super special and homemade - a DIY hamper.
Did you know, the tradition of gifting hampers (even of the sweet variety) is a fairly new phenomenon. Originally, in England hampers were actually used as a practical method of transporting food - think of it as a historic lunch box - and dates back to the 11th century!
Gifting hampers surged in popularity thanks to the Victorians and their steam trains. This mode of transport made sending gifts to friends and relatives much easier, and the Victorians started to send hampers full of food, drink and goodies across the country via the railway. Ultimately, this is what created the tradition of sending a Christmas hamper during the festive season, often sent by employers to their employees as a way of saying thank you for their hard work throughout the year.
Fast forward 100 years, and today gifting hampers continues to be a super popular way of sending presents to a loved one, a friend, or even staff members or clients.
So, if you’d like to create your own DIY hamper for a friend or family member, look no further than this blog post…
Step one - find a hamper or basket
A big part of what makes gifting hampers so special, is the actual container they come in. Whether you use a traditional brown wicker basket with leather straps, or want to use something a little more modern such as a white basket, presentation is key. We recommend having a look online for a hamper or basket, or you could even pick up high quality second hand ones at charity shops or even on Facebook marketplace, Gumtree or somewhere similar.
Step two - source your contents
Whether you’re going to fill the hamper with sweet treats, chocolate goodies, pamper products or a mixture of all three, it's important to ensure what you’re putting into it is of high quality. We recommend taking a look online to find unusual or bespoke products to go inside the chocolate gift hamper or sweet hamper to make it super special.
Step three - fill it up
Line the hamper with some luxury tissue paper before filling the box to the brim of the goodies you have selected to go inside. Carefully layer the items one by one to ensure that the hamper has the wow-factor when it arrives! You could even wrap up individual items to add to the suspense when the recipient opens the hamper and tie a ribbon around the outside to give it some extra pizzazz.
And don’t forget to include a personalised card inside so they know who’s sent them the DIY hamper!
